I had a request from my sweet friend, Grace, to do the "Loose Beach Wave" look so! Here it is. I've provided pictures of the style with short, medium and long hair. The concept is the same for any length of hair, you'll just need to adjust your iron size. Smaller the iron for shorter the hair and longer the hair the larger the iron. Make sense? Remember if you have any questions, just ask :)

LOOSE BEACH WAVE

(I'm gonna give you directions starting from your hair wet. If you're styling second(or more) day hair, then skip down to step 4.)

1. Turn upside down and spray freshly washed roots with volumizing or texturizing spray(some of my favorites are GUTS from Redken or Catwalk by TIGI "Your Highness Root Boost") Massage it in with your fingers. This helps activate the product and creates body and texture.

2. If hair is naturally coarse or curly, work a straightening balm through hair. Here are a few great balms...Catwalk by TIGI Sleek Mystique Blow out Balm, Redken Hair Straightening Balm, Straight SEXY HAIR Power Straight Temporary Straightening Balm.

3. Brush hair (this works the product evenly through hair). Flip your head over and blow dry hair starting at the roots to get extra volume. Once hair is about 75% dry, flip head back over and finish blow drying with a round brush or flat brush to help smooth the hair. Hair must be completely dry for this look to work. Blow cold air at the roots to add volume (cold air locks in a style).

4. Separate hair into three sections, securing with a ponytail holder. (It's easier this way to curl your way through each section).

5. To curl hair, we're going to use a curling iron. I love the Hot Tools. For short hair you'll want to use either 1/2" barrel or 3/4" barrel depending on how short. Medium hair you'll want to use about a 1" barrel and for long hair you'll want to use either a 1", 1 1/4", or 2" barrel depending on how long your hair is and how tight/loose you want the curl. Starting with one section, take a 1-inch portion of hair, spritz it with styling spray (I love to protect with Catwalk by TIGI Sleek Mystique Haute Iron Spray) or hairspray. Wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron. (Wrapping hair is different from the traditional curling method. You don't want to 'clip' hair into the barrel. Wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root). When you're curling, make sure to leave ends loose to avoid a crimp mark.

Release the curl after about 5-10 seconds (hold longer if you want a tighter curl). You should have a corkscrew curl.

6.Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through each section. (It's all in the direction you wind hair around the barrel of the curling iron. Start by placing hair on top of the barrel and wrapping around, then switch by putting the barrel on top of the hair before winding it around). Alternating directions makes curls look more natural. Some curls can remain tight, some loose.

7. Remove nozzle from dryer and gently loosen waves with cool air. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure not to brush them out.

8.To add shine, spritz a hair serum. I like Biosilk Silk Therapy serum or Catwalk by TIGI "Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray. You can forego hair serum and spritz with saltwater spray. (Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea Spray)

9. Set with hairspray. Just don't overdo it, you don't want new waves to feel "crunchy."

Short Hair
Jennifer Nettles, lead singer for Sugarland, wears this short loose curl style so elegantly. Its cute enough for a summer day or sexy enough for a date with your hubby :)

Medium Hair
Kate Hudson looks beautiful as always.

Long Hair
This style is beautiful and sexy. Adding a bandanna is a great look for the summer!

And there ya go! Now you all can have fun, sexy beach waves! I hope this helps! Happy Styling Tips on Tuesdays!

Welcome!

to Shear Love {the BLOG}.
